Like many people, my fondest memories are of growing up in the country, away from the perils of life in the city and the effect that staring at concrete all day long has on the psyche. I grew up on the banks of the Guadalupe River in Comal County, Texas -- a place where I could spend all day fishing and looking for things under rocks, or run around seeking out hiding places in the woods nearby. But familiarity breeds contempt, as the expression goes. I wanted to go to college some place urban, some place alive with the hustle and bustle of a major cultural center. But after living in Austin for 4 years, it seems that all I want to do now is get out of town every chance I get. Fortunately, my photography lets me capture my favorite places and bring them back, so that I can connect with them whenever I want to.
